English

Maths

Science

Text Level

Adventure/mystery stories.  Humorous poetry.  Stories by the same author.  Note-taking and writing letters.  Alphabetical text work.

Sentence Level

Speech marks and dialogue punctuation.  Conjunctions.  Pronouns – possessive, 1st , 2nd, 3rd person, grammatical agreement, replacing nouns.

Word Level

Identifying mis-spelt words and focus on improving spelling.  Collect synonyms.  Use apostrophes to show contractions.  Explore homonyms.  Dictionary work.  Recognise and spell prefixes.  Find antonyms.  Make new words with a root word and a prefix.  Collect common expressions.

Number:

Compare and order whole numbers to 1000.  Round any three-digit number to the nearest 100.  Recognise 2 and 3 digit multiples of 2,5,10 and then 50 and 100.  Choosing appropriate number operations to solve word problems.  Begin using informal pencil and paper methods to show workings.  Find remainders after division and round up or down.  Comparing and estimating fractions.  Understand relationship between units of measure regarding capacity and read scales.

Shape and Space:

Identify lines of symmetry and relate symmetry to individual shapes.  Relate symmetry to right angles within shapes.

Data Handling:

Sort data into Venn and Carroll diagrams.

Electricity

To recognise the parts of a circuit and make a complete circuit.  To test various materials to see if they are conductors or insulators.  To understand the purpose of a switch.  To understand that factors can affect brightness of a bulb, etc.

Humans

To know the difference between living and non-living things.  To know the functions of a human.  To know that there are differences in life processes.

Plants

To describe difference and similarities between plants which have been left to grow in various conditions.  To explain how water, light and temperature affect plant growth.  To know that plants grow, reproduce and make food.

  • 2 Identify sequence of key events in a story.

  • 3 To use various strategies to improve spelling.

  • 4 To use more complex punctuation, marking units of speech, questions and statements.
